CCTV Tower Hire Derry and Londonderry

Temporary camera towers for sites, yards, land and events across Derry, Londonderry and the wider North West, run by one SSAIB certificated team.

What you get when you hire a tower

Every unit arrives complete. There is nothing to connect, nothing to dig and nothing left behind at the end. A hire covers the mast, the cameras, the recorder, the power system and the signage, plus our engineers to put it where it will actually see something.

  • A mast that raises the cameras clear of fences, containers and parked machinery
  • Wide angle cameras with infrared, recording to a device inside the locked cabinet
  • Solar panels and a battery, or a mains feed if the site already has one
  • 4G for live viewing and for motion alerts to your phone
  • A deterrent beacon and CCTV signage for the site

Where the mast sits matters more than the specification. A tower in the wrong corner covers an empty lane and misses the gate, so we walk the ground before anything is commissioned, after dark as well as in daylight where that is what the site needs.

Where towers are used around Derry

Construction and refurbishment sites

Sites on both sides of the Foyle, Cityside and Waterside, run in phases, and the compound moves with them. A tower follows the work instead of being re-cabled to follow it. Tools, plant and fuel go missing overnight rather than during the working day, which is exactly the window a monitored unit covers.

Business parks, yards and industrial units

Yards and units around Pennyburn, the Culmore Road side of the city, Campsie and Maydown hold stock, vehicles and fuel in the open. One elevated camera position covers a yard that would otherwise need several fixed cameras and a lot of trenching to reach them.

Empty commercial premises

A unit standing empty between tenants, or a building waiting on a decision, is a liability rather than an asset. A visible mast in front of it deters the casual attempt, and it gives an owner something concrete to show an insurer about the steps taken.

Farms and land on the city fringe

Land towards Eglinton, Newbuildings and Drumahoe, and out along the A2 and A6, is too spread out for cabling and often has no power at the field gate. Diesel, machinery and quad bikes are the usual losses. A solar tower at a lane end or a shed entrance covers the approach without waiting on a supply.

Events and street closures

Temporary coverage for an event footprint, a car park in use for a few days, or a road closure with a diversion route goes up during the build and leaves with the event.

Off-grid power and 4G across the North West

Plenty of North West sites have no supply at the boundary and no prospect of one inside the programme. Solar with battery backup covers that, and it is the normal configuration here.

Winter is the honest constraint. Daylight is short from November through February, and a battery sized for a summer deployment will not carry the same recording hours in January. We size the battery to the season and to the number of hours you need recorded, then give you the reserve figures at commissioning.

Signal is the second check. 4G coverage in the city is not the same as coverage on a hillside outside it, so we test at the address before a unit is scheduled. Recording continues on the unit whether the signal is there or not.

The real question is how long the site will exist in its current shape.

A fixed system is the better investment for a finished building, a settled yard layout, or anywhere you will still want cameras in five years. A tower is the better answer while the ground is still moving: work measured in months, coverage that has to follow the job, no power or network to connect to, or a requirement that everything is gone at the end.

Plenty of North West projects use both. A tower runs through groundworks and frame, and a fixed system is commissioned as the building is handed over.

Our engineers deliver and position the unit, raise the mast, aim the cameras and commission the system, which takes about two to three hours on a typical site. Remote access is set up before we leave, so you can see the cameras from a phone or a laptop the same day.

Monitoring is optional. Alerts can come straight to you, or the tower can be connected to a staffed monitoring centre that reviews them and escalates out of hours, in line with BS 8418, the standard for remotely monitored CCTV.

Footage is written to the recorder on the unit. If you need a specific clip for the police or an insurer we will retrieve it and provide it in a usable format. Signage comes with the unit, because UK GDPR expects people to be told that recording is taking place, and we agree with you how long footage should be held for the purpose you have set.

Advanced Overwatch is SSAIB certificated (NIRE127) specifically for Intruder Alarm Systems, Visual Surveillance Systems (VSS) and Access Control Systems. Advanced Overwatch is certified to ISO 27001 for information security, so footage and remote access from your Derry tower are handled securely, and to ISO 9001 for quality management, ISO 45001 for health and safety and ISO 14001 for environmental management, so every deployment is consistent, safe and responsibly managed. Hire is quoted as a fixed price after a free survey.

A unit can be on site within 24 hours of an order being confirmed, subject to availability. We cover Derry and Londonderry, Limavady, Strabane and the wider Derry City and Strabane District Council area across Northern Ireland. For planned programmes, book ahead. CCTV towers in Derry and Londonderry, your questions

In most cases within 24 hours of an order being confirmed, subject to unit availability. Positioning, raising the mast, aiming the cameras and commissioning takes roughly two to three hours once the unit is on site. Planned work is worth booking in advance, because units get committed to construction programmes weeks ahead.

It will, provided the battery is sized for winter rather than for June. Short daylight hours mean the panels contribute less, so the battery does more of the work. We specify the battery around the season and the recording hours you need, and hand you the reserve figures at commissioning so you know where the limit is. Where a mains supply exists on site we will use it instead.

Yes. That is one of the situations a tower is built for. Solar and battery remove the need for a supply and 4G removes the need for a broadband line, so a unit can sit at a lane end, a shed entrance or a machinery yard with nothing run out to it. Coverage on open land depends on the mast position, which is what the survey is for.

Yes, if it is handled properly. Recording is made on the unit and we can retrieve a specific period on request and provide it in a format the police or an insurer can use. Cameras have to be aimed and set up so the recording is worth having, which is why the position is agreed at survey rather than guessed on delivery day.

Yes. Under UK GDPR anyone likely to be recorded should be told, which in practice means signage at the entrances and around the covered area, saying that CCTV is in operation and who operates it. Signage is supplied with the unit. Footage should be kept only as long as the purpose you set requires, and we will agree that with you.

We quote a fixed price after a free survey. The specification of the unit, whether monitoring is included and the length of the hire all move the figure, so we would rather look at the site than publish a rate that turns out not to apply. Call 028 7187 8123 to arrange the survey.
