CCTV Cloud Storage

Keep a copy of your CCTV footage off site, so it survives if a recorder is stolen, damaged or fails. We provide and set up cloud storage for homes and businesses across Northern Ireland.

Why keep footage in the cloud

Footage on a recorder is only as safe as the recorder. A break-in, fire or flood can take the recorder and its recordings with it, and RAID cannot help when the whole unit is lost. Cloud storage keeps a copy in a secure data centre, so the evidence is still there when you need it.

It also makes footage easy to find and share from anywhere, which helps businesses with more than one site and speeds up police or insurance requests.

RAID protects against a drive failing. Cloud storage protects against losing the recorder.

Choose how your footage is stored

Most systems record on site. Cloud storage can back that up or replace it, depending on your site and how much protection you need.

On-site recording

Footage stays on the recorder at your premises. You keep full control with no ongoing storage fees, but footage is at risk if the recorder is stolen or damaged.

Best balance for most businesses

Cloud backup

Record on site as normal and send key events or clips to the cloud. This balances cost, control and resilience for most businesses.

Cloud recording

Cameras record straight to the cloud. It suits sites with no safe place for a recorder, but needs reliable upload bandwidth and a subscription.

How we set it up

Cloud storage is set up as part of your CCTV system, so it works with the cameras and recorder you have.

1

Survey

We check your cameras, recorder and broadband upload speed, and agree which footage needs to be kept off site.

2

Choose the service

We provide the cloud service ourselves as CCTV specialists, and recommend cloud backup or cloud recording to suit your cameras or recorder.

3

Set it up

We configure which events or cameras upload, how long footage is kept, and who can view it.

4

Test and support

We test uploads and playback before handover, and support the system afterwards.

Data protection and bandwidth

Footage in the cloud is still personal data under UK GDPR. You need a data processing agreement for the cloud service, a clear retention period and controlled access, and we help you put these in place.

Cloud storage also uses your broadband’s upload speed. Recording several cameras continuously to the cloud can need more upload capacity than many lines offer, which is why most sites back up events rather than everything.

Planning local recording also? Use our CCTV Hard Drive Storage Calculator to help you work out the on-site storage your cameras need.

CCTV cloud storage, your questions

Usually, yes. Most systems record on site and back up to the cloud, so footage is still kept if the internet goes down. Some cameras can record straight to the cloud without a recorder, and we will advise which suits your site.

We provide the cloud service and set up named accounts and permissions to control access. We explain the storage and access arrangements for your system, and you remain responsible for the footage under UK GDPR.

That depends on the cloud service and retention period we agree with you. Pick a period that meets your purpose, as UK data protection law sets no fixed retention period for CCTV.

Uploading footage uses your upload speed. Backing up events rather than recording everything keeps the load low, and we check your connection during the survey.
