External and Perimeter Detection
Beams, external detectors, thermal cameras and fence line sensing for yards, compounds and farms across Northern Ireland. Detect somebody crossing the ground, not the sound of a door going in.
Security for businesses and homes across N.I.
Bring the boundary into view.
Example site zones. The survey establishes the actual layout and equipment.
Start with the ground you need to protect.
External detection can raise an alert at a gate, fence or open area before someone reaches a building. The useful coverage depends on the site, the equipment and the way it is configured.
We assess the terrain, entrances, stored equipment and working routines, then match detection with the camera views and supported alarm connections needed to understand an activation.
Weather, vegetation, wildlife and routine deliveries all form part of the design. Suitable selection, commissioning and maintenance help reduce unwanted activations.
Detection options to assess
Active infrared beams
Detect interruption of a defined line. Clear alignment, terrain and an unobstructed path matter.
Outdoor detectors
Watch an area such as a fuel tank or vehicle bay. Sensing technology and positioning suit the environment.
Thermal cameras
Detect heat patterns in darkness. Weather, contrast and the selected analytics affect performance.
Fence sensors
Assess disturbance along the selected fence. Fence condition and ongoing maintenance influence performance.
Gate contacts
Report gate state. Supported access and alarm connections can add context to an activation.
The survey determines which methods and supported connections are useful. A site does not automatically need every technology, and no detector can promise zero unwanted activations.
Turn an activation into an informed response.
Where CCTV monitoring is included, our own 24-hour CCTV Monitoring Control Room can assess the available views and follow your agreed response plan. Audio challenge, keyholder contact and attendance arrangements depend on the specified service.
We agree which events are monitored, the relevant hours and what should happen if a signal or image is unavailable. Intruder alarm monitoring uses our monitoring partner’s NSI Gold certified Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC). Police attendance is not automatic.
Advanced Overwatch is SSAIB certificated (NIRE127) specifically for Intruder Alarm Systems, Visual Surveillance Systems (VSS) and Access Control Systems. Your specification, commissioning records and maintenance plan identify the equipment and agreed scope.
Perimeter detection, answered.
Will livestock, deer and foxes set a perimeter system off?
Animals and environmental movement can cause unwanted activations. Suitable equipment, mounting, zone design, commissioning and maintenance help reduce them, but no perimeter system can promise complete immunity. Discuss livestock, wildlife, vegetation and changing weather during the survey. Where monitoring is included, relevant camera views can help assess an alert.
Can we protect a site with no mains power or broadband?
It may be possible with a suitable temporary or off-grid arrangement. We assess power demand, charging or servicing, seasonal conditions and usable connectivity before specifying it. A tower, battery or solar installation is not automatically suitable for every location, and a deployment date follows that assessment.
What happens when a beam is broken at three in the morning?
The specified system raises the event through its configured signalling path. Where the event is included in CCTV monitoring, an operator in our own 24-hour CCTV Monitoring Control Room assesses the available views and follows the agreed plan. Audio challenge, keyholder contact or attendance arrangements must be included and suitable. Police response depends on the system, event and applicable policy, not simply a beam breaking.
Can external detection be added to the alarm we already have?
We check the existing panel or controller, supported interfaces, available capacity, signalling and service arrangements. Some equipment can be integrated; other situations may need changes or a separate supported arrangement. Compatibility and the complete event-to-response path are checked and documented before handover.
How close to the boundary can detection go without upsetting neighbours?
There is no single boundary distance that makes every installation appropriate. Assess neighbouring land, public routes, detection zones, camera views, audio, lighting and any relevant permissions. Aiming inward or applying privacy masking can be part of the design, but does not by itself settle all privacy, nuisance or planning responsibilities.
