Home CCTV Installation Northern Ireland

Domestic CCTV for houses across Northern Ireland, built around what you are actually allowed to record. SSAIB Certified installers, one Coleraine team, straight answers on the neighbour questions.

Start with the views that matter.

Tell us what you want to see, and what you want to keep private. We plan camera positions around your home, rather than starting with a fixed number of cameras.

Front door and visitors

Choose a view that gives useful detail of someone approaching the entrance. Height, angle, backlighting and the intended purpose matter more than a single mounting-height rule.

Agree whether you need an overview, a closer view of a person or a specific vehicle detail. A broad view does not automatically provide every kind of identification.

Assess access routes, vegetation, distances, available power and the connection back to the recorder. Separate buildings may need a different cable or network design.

Check the lighting, reflective surfaces and the camera’s usable night image. Infrared and colour options have different requirements; no camera can promise useful colour detail in every lighting condition.

Aim to avoid unnecessary coverage. Review the field of view and available privacy masks with you, and discuss any shared driveway, pavement or neighbouring window before commissioning.

Your home. Other people’s privacy.

Within your own property

Keep the view focused.

Purely personal or household use, limited to your own property, normally falls outside data protection law. Consider audio as well as the camera image when reviewing what is captured.

Beyond the boundary

Plan for your responsibilities.

Recording a public area, shared space or someone else’s property brings data protection duties. Limit the coverage, explain the recording, secure the footage and keep it only as long as needed. Be ready to handle people’s requests, normally within one calendar month.

A conversation with neighbours can help resolve concerns early. Privacy masks can reduce unwanted recording; they need to be set and checked on the chosen equipment. Doorbell video and recorded audio need the same consideration. Read the ICO’s home CCTV guidance or use our CCTV compliance checker as a starting point.

Recording that suits your home.

Wired PoE equipment can carry power and video on one network cable. Wireless equipment still needs a suitable power source and signal. Recording modes, storage and any service charges depend on the chosen system.

Local recording can continue without broadband when the installed equipment, local network and power remain operational. Remote viewing and off-site alerts need a working connection.

We demonstrate the supported app, playback and clip export at handover. If you want an operator response, ask about the separate home monitoring service. Compatible CCTV can connect to our own 24-hour CCTV Monitoring Control Room under an agreed service.

Home CCTV, the questions we actually get asked

Neighbour consent is rarely required under data protection law, but that does not remove planning, tenancy, lease or other property restrictions. Check with the relevant owner or local planning authority where needed, particularly for listed buildings or special restrictions. We discuss positioning and the intended recording at the survey.

If a domestic system captures people beyond your boundary, you must make the recording clear, for example with suitable signage, and meet the other applicable data protection duties. A system used solely for personal or household purposes and confined to your property is generally exempt. A conversation with neighbours is still useful where a camera causes concern.

A compatible local-recording system can record without Wi-Fi or broadband if its cameras, recorder, local connections and power keep working. Some cameras use wired networking; others depend on Wi-Fi. Remote app access and off-site alerts require the relevant internet or mobile connection. We explain the selected system’s behaviour before installation.

A camera plan and a written quote.

The free home survey covers the approaches, cable routes, recorder location, privacy and the views you need. The written proposal confirms the equipment, scope, expected installation time and any ongoing services. Installation includes aiming, configuration and a practical handover.

Based in Coleraine since 2017, we cover all six counties. Advanced Overwatch is SSAIB certificated (NIRE127) specifically for Intruder Alarm Systems, Visual Surveillance Systems (VSS) and Access Control Systems.
