CCTV tower hire in Belfast, done properly

A CCTV tower is a self-contained camera mast on a trailer or skid that you hire for as long as a site needs watching. Advanced Overwatch supplies them across Belfast for construction sites, plant compounds, vacant buildings and outdoor events. Towers run on solar with battery backup or a mains feed, connect over 4G, and can be on site within 24 hours of an order being confirmed.

Coverage, not a branch. Advanced Overwatch works from a single office, 1st Floor, Beresford House, 2 Beresford Road, Coleraine BT52 1GE. Belfast is one of the areas we serve across Northern Ireland, not a separate branch office, and any Belfast contact number reaches the same local team.

What a mobile CCTV tower is

A tower arrives on a trailer or skid, is positioned by our engineers and needs nothing from your site to start working. The mast lifts the cameras above hoarding, stacked materials and parked vans, which is usually the difference between usable footage and a wall of obstructions. A unit from us carries:

  • A telescopic mast, typically four to six metres, so the cameras look down on the area you care about
  • Wide angle cameras with infrared for night use, recording to a device in the locked cabinet at the base
  • A solar array with battery backup, or a mains feed where a supply already exists on site
  • A 4G SIM for live viewing on a phone or tablet and for sending motion alerts
  • Motion triggered recording, a deterrent beacon and CCTV signage

Delivery, positioning, commissioning and collection are handled by our own team, so nothing is left behind when the hire ends.

Typical Belfast deployments

Construction and demolition sites

City centre plots are worked in phases behind hoarding, and the part of the site worth watching in month two is rarely the part worth watching in month six. A tower is repositioned in an afternoon, which is the practical advantage over a camera bolted to a cabin. On demolition and clearance work, a mast on the perimeter also gives you a record of who came through the gate.

Plant, compound and yard security

Plant, fuel, cable and stacked materials are the usual targets, and they usually sit in an open compound rather than inside a building. Yards around the harbour estate and the industrial roads off Duncrue and Dargan, and trade units along Boucher Road and Airport Road West, are exactly the layout a single elevated camera position covers well.

Outdoor events and temporary venues

An event footprint exists for a weekend and then it is gone. Towers go up during the build, cover the gates, the parking and the back of house, and leave with the last truck. Open spaces such as Ormeau Park, Botanic Gardens and the Titanic slipways host events that need coverage across a footprint no fixed system was laid out for.

Vacant buildings and cleared sites

An empty unit or a cleared plot waiting on a decision is a standing risk of break-ins, fly tipping and fire setting, and an insurer will ask what is in place. A visible mast is a deterrent in itself, and if something does happen you have footage rather than an argument.

What is included when you hire a tower from us

  • Delivery, positioning and commissioning by our own engineers
  • Remote access set up on your phone, tablet or office machine
  • CCTV signage for the site, so the notice requirement is met from the first day
  • Optional connection to a staffed monitoring centre, working to BS 8418, the standard for remotely monitored CCTV
  • Retrieval of specific footage on request, in a format you can hand to police or an insurer
  • Collection at the end of the hire, with nothing left in the ground

Advanced Overwatch is SSAIB certificated (NIRE127) specifically for Intruder Alarm Systems, Visual Surveillance Systems (VSS) and Access Control Systems. Advanced Overwatch holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001 and ISO 45001. Hire terms are flexible: weekly, monthly or for the length of a programme. Every hire is quoted as a fixed price after a free survey, because the tower specification, the monitoring level and the length of the hire all change the figure.

When a tower beats fixed cameras on a Belfast site

Fixed cameras are the better answer once a building is finished, the layout has settled and there is power and network at the wall. A tower earns its place before that point. Choose a tower when the work runs for months rather than years, when the area worth watching moves as the programme moves, when there is no supply to connect to, or when the coverage has to disappear cleanly at the end.

In Belfast that is often a compact city centre plot where cabling would mean digging or drilling into something you do not own, or a large open plot where a single mast covers ground that would otherwise need several fixed camera positions and the trenching to reach them.

Two things decide whether a tower performs: the power plan and the signal at the address.

Solar with battery backup suits most of the year and the whole summer programme. Through the darker months a unit specified for June can run short, so we size the battery for the season and for the hours of recording you actually need, and hand over the reserve figures at commissioning rather than leaving you to find out on a wet Sunday.

Where a supply already exists, a site cabin feed or a metered board, a mains connection removes the question and the battery becomes a backup rather than the main source.

Connectivity is 4G. We check the signal at your address before delivery rather than after. Footage is written to the recorder on the unit, so a weak or dropped signal costs you the live view for a while, not the recording.

In most cases we can have a tower on site within 24 hours of an order being confirmed, subject to unit availability. Positioning and commissioning takes about two to three hours once the unit arrives. For planned programmes it is worth booking ahead, particularly across the summer construction season when units move quickly. If you need one urgently, call 028 9099 3566 and we will confirm what is available.

CCTV tower hire in Belfast, your questions

A CCTV tower is a camera mast with its own power and its own network connection. The cameras sit at the top of a telescopic mast, the recorder and battery sit in a locked cabinet at the base, and a solar array or a mains feed keeps the battery charged. Motion starts the recording and sends an alert over 4G, and you view the cameras from a phone or a computer. Nothing is cabled into your building.

For most short term deployments on private land, no. If a unit is going to stay in place for an extended period, or it is going somewhere publicly visible, it is worth confirming with Belfast City Council before it arrives. We raise this at survey rather than after installation.

Yes, that is the point of one. The unit runs on a solar array with battery backup and connects over a 4G SIM, so it needs neither a mains connection nor a fixed broadband line. Where a mains supply is already available on site we will use it, because it takes the seasonal question off the table.

Yes. A tower can be connected to a staffed monitoring centre that reviews motion alerts and escalates out of hours, in line with BS 8418, the standard for remotely monitored CCTV. Monitoring is optional: some sites want a full response, others want recording plus alerts to their own phone. We quote for either.

You do. Footage is recorded on the unit and viewed by whoever you nominate. Under UK GDPR you should hold it only as long as you need it for the purpose you have set, and the site needs signage saying that recording is taking place. We supply the signage, agree a retention period with you at handover, and can retrieve specific footage for police or insurers on request.

We give a fixed quote after a free survey. The figure depends on the tower specification, whether you want monitoring, and how long the unit is on site, so a single headline rate would be misleading. Call 028 9099 3566 or book a survey and you will get a price for your own site.
