CCTV Installation Newtownards

SSAIB certificated CCTV systems for homes and businesses in Newtownards, installed and maintained by one local Northern Ireland team.

Town-centre retail, commercial and industrial cover

Newtownards is one of the largest market towns in Northern Ireland, with a dense retail core around Conway Square and the Ards Shopping Centre, plus sizeable commercial and industrial premises on estates such as Jubilee Road and Newtownards Airport business park. We design CCTV that suits each setting, footfall-aware coverage and clear entrance and till views for shops, and perimeter, yard and access-point cameras for warehousing, trade counters and light-industrial units, all with dependable recording and remote access.

Our Crime in My Area page for Newtownards publishes Police Service of Northern Ireland data through the UK Police open data service. In July 2026 it records 193 crimes within a mile of the town centre. Exactly one was a burglary.

The rest of that month reads violence and sexual offences 73, anti social behaviour 65, criminal damage and arson 25, drugs 12, shoplifting 6, other theft 5, public order 3, vehicle crime 2 and possession of weapons 1. Across the whole settlement in the same month PSNI recorded 223 incidents. Over the last twelve reported months the one mile measure totals 1,993 incidents, 17 per cent higher than the same month a year earlier, which puts Newtownards in the higher third of the 51 Northern Ireland towns the tool tracks.

The anonymised map points cluster on John Street, Regent Street, Mill Street, Greenwell Street and East Street. The wider tables on the same page show that in the Ards and North Down district in 2025/26, residential burglary was 78 offences, up 2.6 per cent on the year, business and community burglary 29, up 26.1 per cent, and vehicle offences 67, down 24.7 per cent.

Homes across the Ards Peninsula

For homeowners we cover Newtownards itself and the villages down the peninsula, Greyabbey, Kircubbin, Portaferry and the shoreline around Strangford Lough. Whether you want a couple of cameras over the doors and driveway or full coverage of a larger property with outbuildings, we position each camera for a genuine view rather than a blind spot, and set up remote viewing so you can keep an eye on things from anywhere.

A single recorded burglary in a month, against 73 violence offences and 25 criminal damage offences, tells you what a Newtownards system is actually being asked to do. It is far more often about identifying a person in a public or semi public space, and about having usable evidence of an incident, than about catching somebody forcing a door at night.

That has three consequences we design around. Cameras need to be set for identification at the points people pass through rather than spread thinly for coverage. Daytime performance matters at least as much as night performance, because these incidents happen when premises are open. And retention needs to be long enough that a report made several days later still has footage behind it.

The commercial centre runs from Conway Square out along High Street, Regent Street, Frances Street and Mill Street, and the PSNI map points concentrate on exactly those streets plus John Street, Greenwell Street and East Street.

Frontages here are narrow and close to the pavement, which is helpful: a camera at the right height above a doorway sees faces at a usable size without a long lens. What tends to be missed is the back. Service lanes and rear yards behind the main streets take the damage, the dumping and the after hours activity, and they are usually the darkest part of the site.

For premises with living accommodation above the shop, a camera covering the shared street door and stair is worth more than another view of the shop floor, and it needs signage and a retention policy that reflect the fact that residents are being recorded.

Retail in the town splits between the shopping centre and a long tail of independents on the main streets, and the camera brief is different for each.

In a unit inside a managed centre, the centre’s own system covers the malls and entrances. What you control is the shop floor, the till, the stockroom door and the goods in area, which is where identification cameras belong. Six wide cameras showing the whole floor from the ceiling are the classic way to end up with footage that proves an incident and identifies nobody.

In an independent unit on Regent Street or High Street you also own the entrance, so an identification camera at head height on the way in is the highest value camera in the shop. Our CCTV compliance page covers the signage, retention and staff monitoring duties that come with recording in a workplace.

Away from the centre, the units off the Jubilee Road and along the Bangor Road and Portaferry Road are a different job: compounds, roller shutters, vehicles, stock and plant, with nobody on site overnight.

Here the useful cameras are at the gate and on the vehicle movements, not on the building elevation. A camera that reads a number plate at the entrance is worth more after an incident than four cameras showing a van sized shape crossing a yard. Number plate capture needs its own camera, its own lens and its own lighting, and it needs a documented reason for capturing plates and a retention period to match.

Where a unit needs somebody to attend on activation rather than a recording to review later, 24/7 alarm and CCTV monitoring and keyholding and vacant property cover that.

South and east of the town, out along the Portaferry Road and the lough shore toward Greyabbey and the Ards Peninsula, properties are more isolated and have long approaches, outbuildings, and frequently a boat or a trailer parked where it can be seen from the road.

Domestic CCTV on a property like that is worth doing, and it is also where people most often get the data protection side wrong. Once a camera records beyond your own boundary, the domestic exemption in data protection law stops applying and you take on responsibilities toward the people recorded. In practice that means angling cameras to cover your own ground, using privacy masking where a lens unavoidably takes in a neighbour or a public road, and putting up a sign.

On long approaches, one camera on the gate at the right height beats several cameras on the house looking down a dark lane.

Cameras tell you what happened. They do not decide who gets through a door and they do not raise an alarm on their own. The matching Newtownards pages are burglar alarms in Newtownards and access control in Newtownards.

Full detail of the service is on our CCTV installation page, and where footage has to be handed to the police or an insurer with other people obscured, CCTV video redaction covers it. Cctv security in Newtownards, your questions

An identifiable image at the point that matters, rather than a wide view of the whole shop. In practice that means a camera at each entrance and one at the till, specified for identification at that distance, with a wider camera covering the sales floor. We design to what the footage has to prove, because a recording that shows an incident happened but not who was involved is of limited use to the police or an insurer.

Yes. Advanced Overwatch is SSAIB certificated (NIRE127) specifically for Intruder Alarm Systems, Visual Surveillance Systems (VSS) and Access Control Systems. It is an independent audit of process and documentation rather than a badge, and it applies to a unit on Conway Square in the same way as to a farm outside the town. It does not extend to fire alarms or emergency lighting, and we would rather say so than let the registration do work it should not.

The Ards peninsula and North Down, across Northern Ireland: Newtownards, Comber, Donaghadee, Bangor and the villages running down towards Portaferry. The same team carries out the survey, the installation and the service visits afterwards, so there is one number to call when something needs looking at.

We quote each Newtownards job after seeing the building. Anything else would be a guess. The free survey, with no obligation, is what lets us recommend a system that fits the building and the budget. Our guide to CCTV installation costs explains what pushes a quote up or down.

Once a domestic camera records beyond your own boundary the household exemption in data protection law stops applying and you take on duties toward the people recorded. That does not make it unlawful, but it does mean angling cameras to cover your own ground where you can, using privacy masking where a lens unavoidably takes in a neighbour or a public road, and putting up a sign. We set that up at installation.

Only if it is designed to. Plate capture needs its own camera, lens and lighting, aimed at a fixed point where vehicles slow, rather than a general view of the gate. It also needs a documented reason for capturing plates and a retention period to match, because plates are personal data.

Long enough to be useful and no longer, and the period has to be one you can justify rather than whatever the recorder happens to hold. Many small retailers land around a month because incidents are often reported days later. We set the retention with you at handover and configure the recorder to it.
