The annual full-duration discharge test is the real one. Every luminaire runs on its own battery for its full rated period, one hour or three depending on the building, and has to hold output all the way to the end. This is where an installation that has passed twelve monthly checks in a row fails, because battery capacity falls off long before the lamp stops lighting.
