Burglar alarms in Enniskillen and across County Fermanagh

Advanced Overwatch designs, installs and maintains burglar and intruder alarm systems in Enniskillen and across County Fermanagh, working across Northern Ireland. Advanced Overwatch is SSAIB certificated (NIRE127) specifically for Intruder Alarm Systems, Visual Surveillance Systems (VSS) and Access Control Systems. We install to BS EN 50131 with PD 6662 as the application guide. Houses, farms, shops and business units all start the same way, with a free survey and a fixed quote after that survey.

Fermanagh is not a county where one alarm specification does for everything. Enniskillen itself is a tight island town, built on a spit of land in the River Erne between Upper and Lower Lough Erne, with terraces, retail at street level and living space above it. Ten minutes out, the same customer base is farms, lough shore houses, holiday lets and business units with no near neighbour to hear a bell. Those two situations need different systems, and pretending otherwise is how people end up with an alarm they switch off.

Business break ins are the Fermanagh number that stands out

Our Crime in My Area page for Enniskillen publishes Police Service of Northern Ireland figures through the UK Police open data service, alongside the NISRA recorded crime tables for the council area. Two things stand out for anyone running a business in the county.

An alarm for an Enniskillen business or community building should reflect its entrances, contents and periods without staff present. We explain suitable detection and monitoring options alongside any insurer requirements.

For August 2026, the published police map data records 70 crimes within the Enniskillen settlement boundary, including 2 burglaries. Anti-social behaviour is counted separately. These area figures do not predict the risk at an individual property. View the Enniskillen crime report and sources.

The maintained Enniskillen report uses the official settlement boundary, with the reporting period shown beside the figures. A selected group of electoral wards is a different geography and should not be described as the whole town.

Source: PSNI mapped records supplied through data.police.uk. The full report identifies its settlement boundary and reporting period. Council totals, when shown separately, cover a wider geography and should not be compared directly with town figures.

An island town centre, and what that does to an alarm

Enniskillen town-centre premises include older buildings with shops, storage and accommodation sharing the same footprint. We plan alarm areas and user access around that layout, so different parts of the building can be secured appropriately.

That building shape drives two design decisions. First, part setting matters more than the hardware list. If the shop can be armed at closing time while the stairs and the flat above stay unset, the system gets used. If it cannot, the system gets switched off within a month. Second, older masonry and deep plans mean wireless detectors need their signal strength proved at survey, door by door, rather than assumed from a floor plan.

Rear yards and service lanes off the main streets are worth as much attention as the shop front. A shuttered front door with an unmonitored rear yard gate is a very common Enniskillen layout.

Farms, sheds and outbuildings around Lough Erne

Fermanagh is the most rural council area in Northern Ireland, and a farm alarm is a different job from a house alarm. The valuables are rarely in the house. They are quads, tools, batteries, fuel, GPS units and machinery, sitting in sheds a hundred metres from anyone who might hear a sounder.

What we normally end up specifying is detection at the outbuildings rather than only at the dwelling, external sounders sited where they can actually be heard from the road, and signalling that does not depend on somebody being at home. On long lanes it is worth covering the approach rather than the shed door, because by the time a detector at the door triggers, somebody is already at the machinery.

Mobile coverage is patchy in parts of the county, particularly in the drumlin country south of Upper Lough Erne and along the Cavan and Leitrim border. We check signal at survey and specify dual path signalling, over broadband and mobile, where a single path would be a single point of failure.

Holiday lets, second homes and property that sits empty

The Erne lakelands carry a large stock of holiday cottages, lough shore houses and cruiser moorings that are empty for long stretches of the year, and a bell only alarm on an empty house on a quiet road is close to decoration.

For property like that the useful parts are monitored signalling to an alarm receiving centre, so an activation reaches somebody whether or not you are in the county, and a keyholding arrangement so somebody attends. Our keyholding and vacant property service covers the attendance side. Where a property is let out, individual user codes matter as much as detection, because a code shared with every changeover cleaner is not a code.

The same logic applies to seasonal business premises around the lough and to units that shut down over the winter.

Grading a system to BS EN 50131, and why the grade matters

Intruder alarms are graded by the level of intruder they are designed to resist. Grade 2 suits most homes and lower risk small premises. Grade 3 is the usual expectation for commercial premises, retail with stock or cash left overnight and higher value residential. Grade 4 is specialist.

The grade is not a marketing badge. It changes the detection specification, the tamper protection, the standby power and the signalling. If an insurer or a lease names a grade, the certificate we issue on completion is the document that proves it. Certificated installation can support insurance compliance and may be a condition of cover on some policies, so it is worth checking your own policy wording rather than taking anybody’s word for it.

We do not quote alarm grades off a phone call. The grade comes out of the survey, and the price is a fixed quote after that free survey.

What happens when it goes off

An alarm is three things: detection, signalling and somebody who acts. Most disappointment with alarm systems comes from the third one being missing.

A monitored system reports to an alarm receiving centre that verifies the signal and contacts keyholders or, where the system is configured and registered for it, the police. Police response in Northern Ireland depends on the system meeting the required standard and on false alarm performance, which is another reason grading and maintenance are not optional extras.

If you would rather nobody in the family drove to a business unit at three in the morning, that is what keyholding and vacant property is for. If you want to see what set the alarm off before deciding, the matching CCTV installation in Enniskillen page covers cameras in the town.

Systems need servicing to stay compliant and to stay accurate. We offer maintenance across the county, and we will service a system another company installed once we have surveyed it.

Burglar alarms in Enniskillen and Fermanagh, your questions

Yes. We install and maintain intruder alarm systems throughout County Fermanagh, from Enniskillen town out to Lisnaskea, Irvinestown, Kesh, Belleek, Derrylin and the border country, working across Northern Ireland. Advanced Overwatch is SSAIB certificated (NIRE127) specifically for Intruder Alarm Systems, Visual Surveillance Systems (VSS) and Access Control Systems. Call 028 8288 8166 to book a free survey.

It depends on the size of the property, the grade the risk calls for, the number of outbuildings and whether the system is wired or wireless, so we do not quote blind. You get a fixed quote after a free survey, in writing, before any work starts.

Yes, and that is the more common Fermanagh job. We detect at the outbuildings rather than only at the dwelling, site external sounders where they can be heard, and use wireless devices or radio links where trenching cable between buildings would be disproportionate. On long lanes we usually cover the approach as well as the door.

We check signal at survey rather than assume it. Where a single path would be a single point of failure we specify dual path signalling over broadband and mobile, so the system still reports if one route drops. If neither path is usable at a given property we will tell you that at survey.

Yes. Advanced Overwatch is SSAIB certificated (NIRE127) specifically for Intruder Alarm Systems, Visual Surveillance Systems (VSS) and Access Control Systems. We issue a certificate on completion recording the grade and the standard the system was installed to. Insurers set their own terms, so check the grade your policy names before the survey and we will design to it.

Usually, yes. We survey the existing system first and tell you plainly whether it is worth maintaining, upgrading or replacing. If the panel is obsolete and spares are no longer available we will say so rather than sell you a contract on it.
