Three access control problems, one town

Antrim rarely presents a single kind of building. Our rule of thumb is simple. If nobody will ever need to know which individual opened the door, and the door is low traffic, a keypad is proportionate: a stockroom, a plant room, a rear staff entrance. As soon as more than a handful of people hold access, or the door protects stock, cash, records or a restricted zone, an individual credential earns its place, because a card or fob can be withdrawn for one person without disturbing anyone else and produces a usable log. Paxton Net2 and Switch2 are the platforms we most often specify here, being the systems most commonly found in Northern Ireland commercial premises.

Mobile credentials, where a phone replaces the card, suit new-build and refurbished premises and sites with high credential churn, and keep the same instant revocation and the same audit trail without physical tokens to buy and chase. Video door entry and intercoms add visual verification, from a single-door audio unit to an IP system covering several entrances with remote release and a link to an existing CCTV system. We advise on the mix at survey rather than defaulting to one technology across every door.

It defines performance grades (Grades 1 to 4) for access control equipment based on the level of resistance to attack and the value of what is being protected.
