CCTV Installation in Londonderry, done properly

Advanced Overwatch provides professional CCTV installation in Londonderry (Derry) and across the wider Derry City and Strabane District Council area, serving commercial premises, residential properties, student accommodation, and construction sites throughout the city and into the surrounding north-west region.

Londonderry holds a unique place in Northern Ireland. As the only intact walled city in Ireland and one of the finest examples of a planned city in these islands, it presents specific challenges and opportunities for CCTV installation. The city’s historic core, bounded by the seventeenth-century walls, includes listed and locally listed buildings on Shipquay Street, Butcher Street, and the streets radiating from The Diamond. Properties on Strand Road, along Foyle Street, and in the Waterside district on the east bank of the River Foyle cover a wide range of commercial, hospitality, and professional use cases. Beyond the city centre, the expanding Ebrington Quarter, the North West Transport Hub, and the Ulster University Magee Campus development represent some of the largest regeneration projects in Northern Ireland, bringing with them substantial demand for construction site security.

Our engineers cover all of Londonderry and the surrounding area including Limavady, Dungiven, Strabane, Castlederg, and rural townlands across the district, as well as construction projects along the A2 and A5 corridors.

Commercial CCTV in Londonderry

Londonderry’s commercial activity is spread across several distinct areas. The Foyleside Shopping Centre and Strand Road form the main retail core. Waterloo Place is a busy mixed-use hub. The Lisnagelvin Retail Park on the east bank serves the Waterside. Each environment demands a different approach to camera placement, resolution specification, and storage capacity.

For businesses in the city centre, we design systems around the specific layout of each premises, covering entrances, till areas, customer zones, and car park approaches. High-resolution IP cameras with AI-powered motion detection allow staff to receive alerts in real time rather than reviewing hours of footage after an incident. Dahua’s WizSense and Hikvision’s AcuSense ranges both use deep learning to distinguish between people and vehicles, reducing false alarm notifications significantly.

For hospitality venues on Strand Road and Waterloo Place, we install systems with integrated audio deterrence and high frame rate recording to capture clear evidence in low-light conditions.

Construction Site CCTV and CCTV Towers in Londonderry

Londonderry is currently one of the most active construction environments in Northern Ireland. The Ulster University Magee Campus expansion is one of the most significant building programmes under way anywhere in the north-west, with multiple phases of student accommodation, academic facilities, and associated development in the Strand Road area. The Ebrington Quarter redevelopment and the North West Transport Hub construction also represent major active sites.

Construction sites in Londonderry and the wider district face real risk of plant theft, materials loss, and out-of-hours trespass. We supply portable CCTV tower units that can be deployed within hours, requiring no mains power or fixed infrastructure. Solar-powered with 4G connectivity, these towers provide 24-hour pan-tilt-zoom coverage of any site area and connect directly to our monitoring partners for real-time alert response. Permanently cabled systems for longer-term sites are also available.

Site managers can view live and recorded footage from any smartphone or tablet, and footage is stored securely on the tower unit with offsite backup via the 4G link.

CCTV Video Redaction in Londonderry

We provide CCTV video redaction services for businesses and organisations in Londonderry that need to release footage in response to Subject Access Requests (SARs), insurance claims, court proceedings, or GDPR compliance requirements. Video redaction means obscuring the faces or identifiable details of third parties who appear in footage before it is shared, so that only the relevant individual’s footage is disclosed.

This is a common requirement for retail premises on Strand Road, health and education facilities including the Altnagelvin Area Hospital site and Ulster University, solicitors’ offices handling personal injury cases, and employers managing workplace incident investigations. We use professional redaction software to process footage efficiently and provide output files in formats suitable for solicitors, insurers, and data protection purposes.

Residential CCTV in Londonderry

For homeowners in Londonderry’s residential areas, from the older streets in the Bogside and Creggan to newer housing developments in the Galliagh and Shantallow areas and the Waterside suburbs of Tullyally and Gobnascale, we install domestic CCTV systems with no ongoing subscription cost. All recording is local, stored on an NVR with hard drive capacity sized for the property. Footage is viewable on any smartphone from anywhere in the world at no monthly cost.

Our residential packages start with four HD cameras covering the main approaches to a property and scale up for larger homes, corner houses, and rural dwellings on the outskirts of the city where coverage of outbuildings and access lanes is needed.

CCTV security in Londonderry, your questions

Do I need planning permission for CCTV cameras in Londonderry’s walled city or conservation areas?

For most domestic and commercial CCTV installations in Londonderry, planning permission is not required under permitted development rights. However, properties within or immediately adjacent to the City Walls, which are a Scheduled Monument, and those within the city’s conservation areas, may face additional requirements. If your property is a listed building or sits within the Walled City Conservation Area, any externally mounted cameras, brackets, or cabling visible from a public area could require consent from Derry City and Strabane District Council’s planning team. For installations near the walls themselves, you may also need to consult with the Historic Environment Division (HED). Advanced Overwatch can assess your specific property and advise on the most appropriate installation method before any work is carried out. We have experience designing discreet systems for older buildings where visual impact must be minimised, and we can help prepare documentation for any required consent applications. Call 028 7187 8123 to discuss your property.

How much does CCTV installation cost for a business in Londonderry?

For businesses in Londonderry, a four-camera HD system covering main entrances and a car park area is at the lower end, and larger commercial premises cost more where they need multiple camera positions, AI-powered analytics, or integration with access control or intruder alarm systems. For construction sites, portable CCTV tower hire starts from a weekly rental rate depending on site size and monitoring requirements. CCTV video redaction work is priced per hour of footage processed. Advanced Overwatch offers free on-site surveys for all commercial enquiries in the Londonderry area. Our guide to CCTV system costs in Northern Ireland explains what drives the cost of home and commercial systems. Call 028 7187 8123 or email info@advancedoverwatch.com to arrange a no-obligation assessment.

Can you provide CCTV coverage for a construction site during the Magee or Ebrington development works?

Yes. We supply portable solar-powered CCTV towers and wired site camera systems to construction companies working anywhere in Londonderry, including on the Magee Campus expansion and the Ebrington Quarter development. Towers can be deployed quickly without planning or civil groundworks, and they operate independently of the site’s mains supply. They connect via 4G to a remote monitoring centre for out-of-hours alert coverage and can be relocated as the site progresses. We can also design permanent camera systems for phased developments where infrastructure will be in place long-term. Contact us on 028 7187 8123 to discuss your site requirements.

Are your Londonderry installations SSAIB Certified?

Yes. Advanced Overwatch is SSAIB certificated (NIRE127) specifically for Intruder Alarm Systems, Visual Surveillance Systems (VSS) and Access Control Systems. This means every system we fit in Londonderry is installed and maintained to recognised industry standards.
