CCTV Installation Larne

SSAIB certificated CCTV systems for homes and businesses in Larne, installed and maintained by one local Northern Ireland team.

Larne, covered from Coleraine

CCTV Installation in Larne, done properly

Advanced Overwatch designs, installs and maintains CCTV systems for homes and businesses across Larne and the wider Mid and East Antrim area, from the harbour and town centre out to the coastal villages and rural properties along the Antrim Coast Road. We work from Coleraine, a short run up the coast, so Larne is well within our everyday coverage.

CCTV installation across Larne and the whole of Northern Ireland. Our engineers are based in Coleraine and work across the region, so a Larne system is surveyed, installed and maintained by the same SSAIB certificated team under registration NIRE127. CCTV for a busy port and market town

Larne is a working port town: the ferry terminal at Larne Harbour, the retail and hospitality units around the Main Street and Laharna area, and the industrial and logistics premises around the harbour estate all carry different security needs. We specify HD, IP and 4K camera systems around the way each site actually operates, loading yards and perimeters for commercial and logistics premises, discreet coverage of entrances and till points for retail, and reliable overnight recording throughout.

Coastal and rural properties covered too

Beyond the town, we cover the residential streets of Larne, Ballygally, Glynn and Islandmagee, and the isolated homes and farms along the coast and up into the glens. Exposed coastal sites need cameras and housings chosen for weather and salt air, and rural properties often need wider perimeter coverage with remote viewing so you can check the yard or outbuildings from your phone. We survey each property on its own terms rather than fitting a one-size box of cameras.

What the police figures show around Larne town centre

Our Crime in My Area page for Larne publishes Police Service of Northern Ireland data through the UK Police open data service. In July 2026 it records 92 crimes within a mile of the town centre, of which four were burglaries.

The month reads anti social behaviour 35, violence and sexual offences 22, drugs 10, criminal damage and arson 7, shoplifting 5, burglary 4, bicycle theft 3, other crime 2, and one each of other theft, vehicle crime, possession of weapons and theft from the person. Across the whole settlement PSNI recorded 141 incidents in the same month. Over the last twelve reported months the one mile measure totals 824 incidents, 28 per cent higher than the same month a year earlier, which is still typical of the 51 Northern Ireland towns the tool tracks.

The anonymised map points concentrate on Main Street, Carson Street, Curran Road, Glynnview Avenue and Tower Road. Across all of Larne, taken from the 7 electoral wards covering the town, police recorded 1,067 crimes in 2025/26, down 15.0% on the year and down 12.6% on 2015/16.

Residential burglary is moving the wrong way across Mid and East Antrim

The town centre count is falling, but the district tables on the same page tell a different story for houses. In Mid and East Antrim in 2025/26 police recorded 134 residential burglaries, up 19.6 per cent on the previous year, against 58 business and community burglaries, down 9.4 per cent, and 93 vehicle offences, down 13.1 per cent. Residents surveyed in 2023/24 for the Northern Ireland Safe Community Telephone Survey put worry about crime overall at 6 per cent, above the Northern Ireland average of 5 per cent.

For a house that means the camera that matters is on the approach: the driveway, the gate, the side passage, the point somebody has to cross before they reach a door. A camera on the front door records the back of somebody who is already there.

A port town, and what coastal weather does to a camera

Larne is a working port on an exposed stretch of the Antrim coast, and that is not a decorative detail when you are fixing electronics to an outside wall. Salt laden air corrodes exposed fixings, cable glands and unsealed connectors. Onshore gales load brackets and slowly move a camera off aim. Salt film builds on a lens far faster here than inland, and a blurred lens turns identification footage into a shape.

What we specify on exposed sites is corrosion resistant housings and stainless fixings, cable entries sealed properly rather than relying on a grommet, brackets braced for wind loading rather than the minimum that holds the weight, and an annual service that includes lens cleaning, refocusing, re aiming and a check of recorder storage and system clock.

The same applies out along the Antrim Coast Road toward Ballygally and Glenarm, and around Islandmagee and Larne Lough, where the exposure is worse than in the town itself.

Main Street, Curran Road and the town centre

Main Street carries the largest single cluster of PSNI map points in the town, with Carson Street and Curran Road behind it. That is retail frontage, pavement and a good deal of ordinary town centre footfall.

For premises on that stretch, the highest value camera is at the entrance, set for face height on the way in, with a second wider camera for context. Rear yards and service access off Curran Road and the side streets take the after hours damage and are usually the darkest part of a site, so if the budget stretches to one more camera, that is where it goes rather than another view of the shop floor.

Premises with a flat above need signage and a retention policy that reflect that residents are being recorded, which our CCTV compliance page sets out.

Yards, compounds and port related premises

The commercial side of Larne is heavy on yards and compounds: haulage, storage, plant, marine and engineering, spread around the harbour approaches and the industrial areas on the edge of the town. Those sites have long perimeters, vehicles moving at all hours and very little natural surveillance.

On a compound the useful design is a small number of identification cameras at the gate and the pedestrian entrance, one camera capable of reading a number plate at the point vehicles slow, and wider cameras for context, rather than a ring of general views around a fence. Plate capture needs its own camera, its own lens and its own lighting, and it needs a documented reason and a retention period to match, because a plate is personal data.

Where a site needs somebody to attend rather than footage to review afterwards, 24/7 alarm and CCTV monitoring and keyholding and vacant property cover that side.

Homes along the coast road and out to Islandmagee

Out of the town the properties change completely: detached houses on the Coast Road, farms and smallholdings behind them, and the scattered housing around Islandmagee, Glynn and Ballygally. Long approaches, outbuildings, boats and trailers, and often no neighbour within sight.

Two things follow. Coverage belongs on the approach and the outbuildings, not just the house. And a camera is only useful if you can actually see it from somewhere else, which means checking the broadband or mobile connection at survey rather than promising remote viewing and finding out afterwards.

Once a domestic camera records beyond your own boundary the household exemption in data protection law stops applying, so on a shared lane we angle cameras to cover your own ground and use privacy masking where a lens unavoidably takes in a neighbour or the road.

Getting footage to the PSNI, and keeping it usable

Footage is only evidence if it can be got off the system, viewed by somebody else, and tied to a reliable time. We set all three up at handover: a clip export you can actually perform, a viewable format, and a system clock that is synchronised and checked at each service.

Where other people appear in the footage and only one person is the subject of a request, faces and plates can be obscured first through our CCTV video redaction service, so a disclosure to police, an insurer or a solicitor does not hand over more than it should.

Full service detail is on our CCTV installation page, the nearest sibling town pages are CCTV in Ballymena and CCTV in Antrim, and the coverage map lists everywhere else.

Cctv security in Larne, your questions

A walk of the property before anything is quoted. We look at the approaches, where someone would come in, what the lighting does after dark, where cable can run and what each camera would realistically see at the distance involved. On the coast we look at exposure as well, because a position that suits the view does not always suit the weather. You get a written specification setting out camera positions and the job each camera is doing, and the survey is free.

Yes. Advanced Overwatch is SSAIB certificated (NIRE127) specifically for Intruder Alarm Systems, Visual Surveillance Systems (VSS) and Access Control Systems. Certification is a third-party audit of how systems are designed, installed, documented and serviced, so it applies to a house above the harbour in the same way as to a commercial site. It is worth asking for a registration number on any quote you receive, from us or from anyone else.

Yes. The same team covers Larne, Ballygally, Glynn, Islandmagee, Carnlough and the coast road across Northern Ireland, with no franchise and no local subcontractor in between. The engineer who surveys the property comes from the team that installs and maintains it, which matters most when you need a service visit years later.

No two properties are the same, so each Larne job is priced from its own survey, not from a standard list. The survey is free and carries no obligation. It is also the only honest way to recommend a system for the building and the budget. Typical CCTV prices in Northern Ireland are set out in our guide if you want a figure to work from beforehand.

It shortens the life of anything that is not specified for it. On exposed sites we use corrosion resistant housings and stainless fixings, seal cable entries properly rather than relying on a grommet, brace brackets for wind loading, and recommend an annual service that includes lens cleaning, refocusing and re aiming, because a camera that has drifted off aim covers the wrong thing.

On the approach rather than the front door. A camera at the gate or the pinch point on the lane, set at a height where it sees a face rather than the top of a head, is worth more than several cameras on the house looking down a dark drive. Outbuildings usually deserve their own camera, and we check the broadband or mobile connection at survey before promising remote viewing.

Yes. We set up a clip export you can perform yourself, in a viewable format, with the system clock synchronised so the timestamps hold up. Where other people appear and only one is the subject of the request, our CCTV video redaction service can obscure faces and number plates first.
