What Newcastle's figures say about a resort town

Newcastle fills up and empties out with the seasons. In a resort town, recorded crime tends to gather where the visitors are: the promenade, the main street, the car parks and the beach. That tells you something worth knowing. Risk to a business here is not constant, it moves with the calendar and with the hours the town is awake.

So a resort has two security problems rather than one. In season you are looking after a busy frontage, a till and a car park full of strangers’ vehicles. Out of season you are looking after a building that stands dark and shuttered for weeks while the owner lives elsewhere. A system that only suits the summer leaves the longer half of the year thinly covered, which is why we design for the quiet months first and let the busy ones look after themselves.

Security for Newcastle's seafront and hospitality premises

Newcastle lives on hospitality. Along Central Promenade and Main Street there are hotels, guesthouses, cafes, bars and outdoor shops, and behind them streets of self catering lets, many in older terraced cottages. Every one of them hands a door to people it has never met. We put entry control on those doors so a code can change between guests, cameras on the entrance, parking and bin area, and alarm zones that let housekeeping get on with the turnaround without the system going off.

The weather is the other factor. Equipment on the seafront, or on an exposed gable above Shimna Road, takes salt, driven rain and wind that inland sites never see, so brackets, housings and cable entries are chosen for it and sited away from the worst of the spray. Properties further out along the Bryansford and Tullybrannigan roads sit against the forest and the mountain instead, which brings long dark approaches and no passing traffic to notice anything.

Our services

What we install in Newcastle

CCTV installation

Camera systems for hotels, lets, shops and houses in Newcastle, with live and recorded views on your phone. We position for the entrance, reception, parking and bin store, keep units off the most exposed faces of the building where the view allows, and use fixings and housings that survive salt air on the promenade.

More on CCTV installation.

Intruder alarms laid out in zones, which matters in a building where cleaners, kitchen staff and guests all move at different times. Protect the function room and the store while the bar is open, or put the whole of a closed guesthouse on while you are away from Newcastle for the winter, and check the state of it from the app.

Entry control and door entry for guest rooms, staff areas, stores and shared hallways, worked by keypad, fob or app. For a Newcastle self catering let it means issuing a code for one booking and retiring it at checkout, so there is no key sitting in a lockbox and no lock to change when one goes missing.

More on access control.

Fire alarm systems and emergency lighting for hotels, guesthouses, cafes and let property in Newcastle, designed around where people sleep, how they get out and which stairs they will use in the dark. Older terraces and converted buildings need the detail right, and we keep the testing records straight for you.

CCTV can be monitored through 24-hour NI CCTV Monitoring from Advanced Overwatch, and intruder and fire alarm monitoring is provided through our monitoring partner’s NSI Gold certified Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC).

We service what we fit on planned visits, and we can adopt a system left by another installer after a survey. On this coast the service counts for more than it does inland: salt works into seals, glands and brackets, so cleaning, resealing and checking fixings is what carries a Newcastle installation through the winter.

CCTV and alarms in Newcastle, your questions answered

Yes. With keypad or app entry you issue a code for the stay and it stops working at checkout, so you are not posting keys or trusting a lockbox. If a guest overstays, or a cleaner leaves, you change the code from your phone. You can also see when the door was opened, which settles most changeover arguments before they start.

Yes, if it is specified for the position. Salt finds every shortcut in an installation long before it troubles the camera, so the fixings, the seals and the cable entries decide how long it lasts. We mount clear of direct spray where the view allows, use materials that cope with it, and set a cleaning interval from the start.

We set it up so the whole building can be armed while it is empty and looked at from your phone wherever you are. Cameras cover the doors, the yard and the parking, detection goes across the areas anyone would have to pass through, and you get an alert with footage instead of finding out on your next visit.

A system you can arm for months and still look in on. We cover the door, the counter and any rear access, put detection across the whole unit for the closed period, and leave you an app view so you can see the shutter is down without driving to the coast. Reopening is then just a matter of disarming it.

We cover Newcastle and the Mourne coast around it, taking in Bryansford, Tollymore, Dundrum, Murlough and on towards Annalong, plus the lanes running up the Tullybrannigan and Castlewellan roads. Homes, holiday lets, hotels, shops and commercial premises are all handled by the same team, working across Northern Ireland from Coleraine.

We also cover the area around Newcastle

On the Mourne coast run we also look after Castlewellan, Dundrum, Annalong and Kilkeel, so a hotel here and a let further round the coast can both be seen on one journey.
