The regional picture
PSNI recorded 93,560 offences in the twelve months to June 2026, down from 94,751 in the previous year. That is a reduction of 1,191 offences. PSNI describes the total as one of the lowest since the current data series began in April 1998.
The regional fall does not mean every area or type of crime followed the same pattern. The district comparison below shows where the direction differed.
How the area compares
Lisburn & Castlereagh City recorded the largest percentage rise, while Derry City & Strabane had the largest percentage fall. Causeway Coast & Glens and Ards & North Down were the other districts recording increases.

Figures reproduced from PSNI’s 30 July 2026 publication. The district rows total 93,549 offences; PSNI reports 93,560 for Northern Ireland. Both are retained as published.
Causeway Coast & Glens includes Coleraine, Portrush, Portstewart, Ballymoney and Limavady. It recorded 164 more offences than in the previous twelve months.
The offences behind the change
The largest reductions by number of offences were in violence with injury, criminal damage and violence without injury. For property owners and businesses, the picture included:
- Burglary: 2,575 offences, down 6.1%.
- Vehicle offences: 2,135, down 9.7%.
- Criminal damage: 13,377, down 4.1%.
- Shoplifting: 8,466, up 0.7%.
Other categories, including stalking and harassment, drug offences and possession of weapons offences, also increased.
Why the business robbery increase needs context
Recorded robbery of business property rose from 86 to 154 offences, an increase of 79.1%. PSNI says an April 2025 clarification to the Home Office Counting Rules contributed to that increase.
The clarification concerns theft in retail premises involving violence or threats. That change affects year-on-year comparisons, so the rise needs to be read with this context.
What this means for homes and businesses
District figures provide context. They cannot tell you how likely your own home or business is to experience crime. Recorded totals are affected by reporting, recording rules and policing activity, as well as by the offences themselves.
For a home, useful CCTV can make it easier to check in while you are away and find a recording when something happens. For a business, it can help staff review incidents and see what is happening around entrances, stock areas and outside spaces.
Advanced Overwatch designs, installs and supports CCTV systems across Northern Ireland, with remote viewing where the system and connection support it, and maintenance to help keep the system working.

Sources and how to read the figures
This article summarises PSNI’s Police Recorded Crime in Northern Ireland: Update to 30th June 2026, published on 30 July 2026. It compares 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026 with the previous twelve months. The figures are retained from that publication and may differ from later revised releases.
Police recorded crime does not include every offence that occurs. Differences in reporting and recording affect the totals. Raw district totals are not adjusted for population.
