Both figures use the identical 1-mile town-centre measure, so this comparison is like-for-like. Bigger towns naturally record more incidents.

This monthly figure places it among the HIGHER third of the 51 Northern Ireland towns with published data for that month, on the same one mile measure.

These are counts within 1-mile circles, not population-adjusted crime rates or a ranking of personal safety.

Whole-town figures sum the official police recorded crime tables for the electoral wards covering Portadown, published by NISRA. Council figures cover the whole council area. Both are financial-year totals, separate from the monthly 1-mile measure.

The annual council series uses burglary, vehicle offences, robbery and criminal damage groupings. The monthly town-centre security-related subtotal uses a broader set of categories. These definitions differ, so do not compare the two subtotals as the same measure.

They come from the Police Service of Northern Ireland, published through the UK Police open-data API at data.police.uk. We count exactly what PSNI publishes and we do not model or adjust it. PSNI releases roughly six weeks in arrears, so the most recent month on this page is August 2026 with 181 crimes recorded near Portadown centre. Our systems check daily and refresh when a new month appears, and our data notes record the lag and the rest of the small print.

Honestly, not much on its own, which is why we do not count it in the security-related group. Anti-social behaviour made up 79 of the 181 crimes recorded near Portadown centre that month. The 72 we do count as security-related are the ones a system can be designed against: violence and sexual offences, criminal damage and arson, other theft, burglary. For everything else a camera provides a dated record of what happened and where, which is what police and insurers ask for, rather than prevention.

Across all of Portadown, the official series recorded 2,504 crimes in 2025/26, down 2.8% on 2024/25 and down 3.3% against 2015/16. That is the long view for the whole town, while the one-mile centre count above, 181 crimes in August 2026, is the short view for the middle of it. Reading both is more useful than either on its own. Our engineers cover the whole of Northern Ireland, and the survey is free. Our CCTV Installation Portadown page covers what that looks like locally.
