Ajax Alarm Installation in Northern Ireland
Smart alarm control, made straightforward. As a certified Ajax partner and installer, Advanced Overwatch designs, installs and supports Ajax systems for homes and businesses across Northern Ireland. We recommend the equipment, set it up and explain everyday use.
Security for businesses and homes across N.I.
Wireless that fits the building.
A hub sized to the site.
Ajax is a wireless alarm system controlled through a smartphone app. It is quick to fit, tidy in older and finished buildings, and easy to live with day to day. What makes it work well is the design behind it: which hub, which detectors, where they go, and how an alarm is answered. Advanced Overwatch is a certified Ajax partner and installer, SSAIB certificated (NIRE127) for Intruder Alarm Systems, and we survey, design, install and maintain Ajax systems from our base in Coleraine to sites right across Northern Ireland.
| Planning question | Hub 2 | Hub 2 Plus | Ajax Superior range |
|---|---|---|---|
| System size | Up to 100 devices, 50 users and 9 security groups | Up to 200 devices, 200 users and 25 security groups | Superior Hub Hybrid 2: up to 250 wired and wireless devices on one system |
| A common fit | Most homes and smaller businesses | Larger premises or more separately controlled areas | Higher risk sites, or where an insurer asks for Grade 3 |
| Grading | Specified to the risk at the survey | Specified to the risk at the survey | Ajax lists EN 50131 Grade 3 and PD 6662:2017 certificates |
| Care to plan | Radio signal at each device position | Radio signal and security groups | Both wired and wireless checks |
Photo verification
MotionCam detectors take a short series of photos when they trigger, so you, and the alarm receiving centre on a monitored system, can see what set the alarm off.
Already have some Ajax kit?
We can survey it, add to it and commission it properly, including a kit you bought yourself.
Decide what should happen
after an alarm
How an alarm is answered is a separate decision from the equipment. If you also have cameras on site, ask us about 24-hour NI CCTV Monitoring from Advanced Overwatch.
App alerts
The system notifies you and the people you choose, and you decide what to do. This suits many occupied homes. An app does not by itself provide an operator response.
Monitored response
Alarm signals go to our partner, an NSI Gold certified Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC), 24 hours a day. Operators follow the response plan you agree with us, such as calling your keyholders. MotionCam photos arrive at the ARC with the alarm, so the operator can see what triggered it.
A monitored system installed and maintained to the required standards can be registered with the PSNI for a Unique Reference Number. You will need keyholders who can attend within 20 minutes, and a good false alarm record keeps the response in place.

Advanced Overwatch is a certified Ajax partner and installer. We design every Ajax system around a survey, and add to or take over existing Ajax systems.
Grading, Insurance & SSAIB Certification
Advanced Overwatch is SSAIB certificated (NIRE127) for Intruder Alarm Systems, Visual Surveillance Systems (VSS) and Access Control Systems, and certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001 and ISO 45001.
Intruder alarms in the UK are designed to the BS EN 50131 series through the PD 6662 scheme, and the system grade describes the kind of intruder it is built to resist. Ajax’s standard wireless range is commonly specified for homes and smaller businesses. For premises holding high value stock, cash or equipment, or where an insurer asks for Grade 3, we use the Ajax Superior range.
If your insurer has an alarm condition, bring it to the survey. We design to the grade they ask for, and as an SSAIB certificated installer we provide:
- An installation certificate showing the standard and grade the system was installed to
- Regular maintenance visits, which insurers commonly expect
- URN registration for PSNI police response on monitored systems
- A record you can check on the SSAIB register
If you are unsure whether an existing Ajax system meets your insurance requirements, we can inspect it and advise on any changes.
From the first survey to ongoing care
The six stages of an Ajax alarm installation.
1. Free site survey
Walk the property with you, check radio signal at each planned device position and agree what the alarm needs to do.
2. System design
A written quotation setting out the hub, every device and where it goes, the grade, the monitoring arrangement and the maintenance terms.
3. Professional installation
Our engineers fit the agreed system around the practical needs of the premises.
4. Commissioning and testing
Test every device and signal path, and connect monitoring if you have chosen it.
5. Handover and training
Set up your users, show you the app and keypad, and leave you with the certificate.
6. Ongoing maintenance
We look after servicing and any faults, and replace detector batteries before they run low.
Keep the installed system in use
- Inspect
- Detectors, sounders, power supplies and relevant signalling paths.
- Service
- Battery and component checks, with applicable software or firmware work.
- Record
- Service findings and the work completed for your system.
- Support
- Fault reporting and response arrangements defined in the service agreement.
Discuss the maintenance schedule and support terms for your premises. Detector batteries are replaced as part of maintenance before they run low. No system can be guaranteed to remain fault-free.

Ajax alarm questions
Can I install an Ajax alarm myself?
Ajax kit is set up through the Ajax app, so a careful homeowner can pair a hub and a few detectors. The police guidance does not recommend DIY alarms, though, because a self-designed system may not suit the risks, and problems often show only after a break-in. If you want a certificate, monitoring or police response, use a certificated installer. As a certified Ajax partner and installer, we can survey and take over a kit you have already bought.
How many devices can an Ajax hub take?
Ajax lists Hub 2 at up to 100 devices, 50 users and 9 security groups. Hub 2 Plus takes up to 200 devices, 200 users and 25 security groups. Larger sites can use range extenders or a hub from the Ajax Superior range. We size the hub at the survey, leaving room to add devices later.
Is a wireless Ajax alarm reliable?
Yes, when it is designed and maintained properly. Ajax uses encrypted two-way radio, reports tampering, jamming and lost connections, and Hub 2 can send signals over Ethernet and two SIM cards. The survey includes a signal check at each device position, and detector batteries are replaced as part of maintenance before they run low.
Can an Ajax alarm be monitored with police response?
Yes. A monitored Ajax system sends alarms to our partner NSI Gold certified Alarm Receiving Centre, which follows your agreed response plan, and MotionCam photos arrive with the alarm so the operator can see what triggered it. For police response, the system must be installed, maintained and monitored to the required standards and registered with the PSNI for a Unique Reference Number, with keyholders who can attend within 20 minutes.
Will Ajax work with my pets?
Usually, yes. Ajax motion detectors, including MotionCam, have pet immunity settings when they are mounted at the right height and angle. The exception is the Grade 3 Superior motion detectors, which Ajax says do not offer pet immunity. Tell us about your animals at the survey and we will choose and position detectors to suit them.
