Types of CCTV Systems We Install

Every site has different security requirements. Advanced Overwatch installs a comprehensive range of CCTV technologies to match your specific needs and budget:

IP Camera Systems

Internet Protocol cameras deliver superior image quality, remote access capability and advanced analytics. IP systems transmit footage over your network, allowing centralised recording, cloud backup and seamless integration with access control, intruder alarms and building management systems. We install IP CCTV systems from 2MP right up to 32MP ultra-high resolution cameras.

4K and Ultra High Definition (UHD) CCTV

For sites where evidential-quality footage is paramount — retail environments, car parks, building entrances — our 4K UHD cameras capture exceptional detail. Number plates, facial features and clothing descriptions are clearly identifiable even when digitally zoomed, giving you footage that stands up as evidence.

Analogue and HD-CVI Systems

If you have existing coaxial cabling infrastructure, our HD-CVI and analogue solutions allow you to upgrade image quality without a full cable replacement. This is a cost-effective route for sites looking to modernise legacy CCTV systems while controlling installation costs.

Thermal Imaging Cameras

Thermal cameras detect heat signatures rather than visible light, making them highly effective for perimeter protection in complete darkness, adverse weather or challenging environments. We deploy thermal imaging for critical infrastructure, industrial sites, fuel depots and large outdoor areas where conventional cameras may struggle.

ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition)

Our ANPR camera systems automatically capture and log vehicle registration plates, enabling automated access control for car parks, secure compounds and gated communities. ANPR integrates with barrier systems, databases and alert platforms to flag vehicles of interest in real time.

Wireless and Rapid-Deployment CCTV

For temporary requirements such as construction sites, events or short-term projects, our rapid-deployment CCTV towers and wireless camera systems provide full surveillance capability without permanent infrastructure. These systems can be operational within hours and relocated as your project evolves.

Our CCTV Installation Process

We follow a structured, proven process for every CCTV installation to ensure the system we deliver precisely matches your requirements:

1. Free Site Survey

One of our experienced security consultants will visit your premises to assess the site, understand your security concerns and identify the optimal camera positions. This survey is completely free and without obligation.

2. System Design and Proposal

Based on the site survey, we produce a detailed system design including camera locations, field-of-view diagrams, recording specifications and network requirements. You receive a clear, itemised quotation with no hidden costs.

3. Professional Installation

Our SSAIB-certified engineers carry out the installation to the highest standards. All cabling is neatly run and secured, cameras are precisely positioned and focused, and recording equipment is installed in a secure location. We minimise disruption to your daily operations throughout the installation process.

4. Configuration and Commissioning

Every camera is individually configured for optimal image quality, recording schedules, motion detection zones and alert parameters. We test every component of the system thoroughly before handover.

We provide comprehensive training for your staff on how to operate the system — live viewing, playback, exporting footage, managing user accounts and understanding alerts. You also receive full documentation including system diagrams and equipment details.

6. Ongoing Maintenance and Support

Our relationship does not end at installation. We offer flexible maintenance contracts to keep your system in peak condition, with regular servicing, firmware updates and priority support.

CCTV Monitoring and Remote Access

Modern CCTV systems are far more than passive recording devices. Advanced Overwatch configures every installation for maximum usability:

  • Remote Viewing — Access your cameras from anywhere in the world using your smartphone, tablet or laptop. Our engineers configure secure remote access as standard on every installation.
  • Cloud Recording — In addition to on-site recording, we can configure cloud backup to ensure your footage is safe even if on-site equipment is stolen or damaged.
  • Mobile App Alerts — Receive instant push notifications when motion is detected in defined zones, allowing you to respond immediately to potential security events.
  • Professional Monitoring — For sites requiring the highest level of protection, we can connect your CCTV system to a professional Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) for 24/7 monitored response.
  • Video Analytics — Advanced features including people counting, line crossing detection, facial recognition and loitering alerts add intelligence to your surveillance system.

GDPR Compliance for CCTV Systems

Operating a CCTV system brings legal responsibilities under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. Advanced Overwatch helps you meet these obligations:

  • Signage — We supply and install compliant CCTV warning signs at all appropriate locations, informing individuals that recording is taking place and providing contact details for the data controller.
  • Data Retention — We configure recording schedules and automatic overwrite periods to ensure footage is not retained longer than necessary for its stated purpose.
  • Subject Access Requests — We provide guidance and training on how to handle Subject Access Requests (SARs) from individuals who wish to view footage of themselves.
  • Video Redaction — Through our dedicated CCTV Video Redaction service, we can redact third-party individuals from footage before disclosure, ensuring you remain fully compliant when sharing recordings.
  • Data Protection Impact Assessments — For larger installations, we assist with completing DPIAs to document the necessity, proportionality and safeguards of your CCTV system.

CCTV Maintenance Contracts

A CCTV system is only effective if it is properly maintained. Advanced Overwatch offers comprehensive maintenance contracts to protect your investment:

  • Annual Servicing — Scheduled visits to clean cameras, check connections, verify recording integrity, update firmware and test all system components.
  • 24/7 Technical Support — Telephone and remote support from our engineering team whenever you need assistance.
  • Priority Callout — Guaranteed response times for on-site repairs, minimising downtime if a fault occurs.
  • System Health Monitoring — Proactive remote monitoring that alerts our team to issues such as camera failures, storage problems or network disruptions before they affect your security.
  • Technology Upgrades — We advise on and implement system upgrades as technology evolves, ensuring your CCTV installation continues to deliver optimum performance year after year.

How much does CCTV installation cost in Northern Ireland?

CCTV installation in Northern Ireland typically costs between £500 and £5,000 or more depending on the number of cameras, camera type, recording equipment, and whether remote monitoring is included. Advanced Overwatch provides free site surveys and tailored quotes for both residential and commercial CCTV installations across Northern Ireland, including Belfast, Derry, Coleraine, and all surrounding areas.

For a typical residential installation with 2 to 4 HD cameras and local recording, expect to pay approximately £500 to £1,200 including equipment and labour. Small commercial systems with 4 to 8 cameras, an NVR recorder and remote viewing typically range from £1,200 to £3,000. Larger commercial or multi-site systems with AI analytics, licence plate recognition, or cloud recording will cost significantly more.

Factors that affect the final price include:

  • Camera count and type: fixed, PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom), fisheye, or thermal
  • Resolution: from 2MP standard HD through to 4K ultra-HD
  • Recording method: local NVR, cloud-only, or hybrid
  • Cabling requirements: new cable runs vs existing infrastructure
  • Remote monitoring: connecting to a 24/7 ARC (Alarm Receiving Centre) adds an ongoing monthly cost

Advanced Overwatch is SSAIB-certified for Visual Surveillance Systems (SSAIB ref: NIRE127, CIN: 13473-005) and ISO 9001, 14001, 27001 and 45001 certified. We install Hikvision and Dahua systems and our engineers hold the relevant Dahua VSS certification. All engineers are vetted to BS 7858:2019. Visit advancedoverwatch.com to request your free no-obligation site survey.

How long does a CCTV installation take?

Most residential CCTV installations are completed within a single day. A typical home system with four cameras takes between four and six hours, including cable routing, camera mounting, recorder setup, and remote viewing configuration. Small commercial installations with four to eight cameras usually take one full working day. Larger commercial systems, multi-storey buildings, warehouse sites, or multi-camera retail premises, typically require two to three days, and complex or phased projects are planned in stages to minimise disruption to your operations.

Advanced Overwatch’s SSAIB-certified engineers (NIRE127) carry out a full site survey before any installation to plan cable routes, camera positions, and recording requirements. This means installation day runs efficiently with no surprises. All engineers are background-vetted to BS 7858:2019.

The timeline for your installation depends on:

  • Number of cameras: a 4-camera domestic system vs a 32-camera commercial system are very different jobs
  • Cable routing: surface-mounted conduit is faster; concealed cable through walls or ceiling voids takes longer
  • Building type: new builds are generally quicker; older buildings with thick walls or complex layouts take more time
  • Remote viewing setup: configuring mobile apps and remote access adds roughly one hour to the job

After installation, we provide a full handover, walk you through the system operation, and issue commissioning documentation. We are ISO 9001, 14001, 27001 and 45001 certified, so all our installation processes are quality-managed end to end. Contact us at advancedoverwatch.com to book your free site survey.

What is the difference between a DVR and an NVR CCTV system?

A DVR (Digital Video Recorder) works with analogue CCTV cameras and encodes video footage at the recorder itself. An NVR (Network Video Recorder) works with IP cameras, which encode video at the camera and transmit it over a network connection, either wired or wireless, to the recorder.

For most new commercial and domestic installations in Northern Ireland today, NVR with IP cameras is the recommended approach. Here is how they compare:

Feature DVR (Analogue) NVR (IP)
Image quality Standard definition to 1080p 2MP to 12MP and beyond
Installation Coaxial cable to each camera Cat5e/Cat6 network cable or Wi-Fi
Flexibility Limited, fixed camera positions Cameras can be added or repositioned via network
Remote viewing Supported Supported, often with better app quality
Cost Lower upfront cost Higher upfront, lower long-term maintenance
AI features Rare at this level Motion zones, facial detection, licence plate recognition

DVR systems still make sense when upgrading an existing analogue installation where the coaxial cabling is already in place, it avoids a full rewire and reduces cost. NVR systems are the right choice for new installations, higher-security applications, or any site that needs AI-assisted analytics.

Advanced Overwatch is a Dahua Key Partner and installs both DVR and NVR systems. As an SSAIB-certified installer (NIRE127), we carry out a free site survey to recommend the right system for your budget and security requirements. Visit advancedoverwatch.com to get started.
