Benefits of Security Systems during Lockdown

With the vast majority of business premises now closed across the UK and Ireland, as a result of the COVID-19 Lockdown we offer security systems and ways in which business owners can best ensure that their property is protected during these exceptional times.

The outbreak of the Coronavirus and the need for social distancing, has led to all but essential workers now working remotely from home which means that across the country, factories and offices, bars and restaurants, sports and leisure venues and a host of other buildings are now lying empty.

What we Offer

  • CCTV and Alarm Systems:

Installing a CCTV system over a Lockdown period will instantly act to deter criminals and theft. Intruders look for easy targets that will draw little attention to themselves. Seeing a CCTV system installed at your business site will encourage them to move on to a new target, as they will not want to be caught on camera. Effective for both external and internal security, CCTV cameras can deter internal theft by leaving no area unmonitored. Having the cameras visible inside your premises will also show the intruder that your business is serious about security.

  • Remote Monitoring

As a company who provides, installs and monitors Security systems, while you and your staff are furloughed, we can provide monitoring for your premises.
This means we would have 24/7 access to your Security systems and be able to make you aware in the case of anything happening within your premises, while your business is shut during the Lockdown period and your staff are furloughed.

We can link into a company’s CCTV, Intruder and Fire Alarms to monitor remotely thus ensuring appropriate Police response to alarm activations, the recording of evidence via visual confirmation, and importantly, the ability to engage live with intruders through audio systems without the risk that comes with facing down intruders in person.

  • Access Control Systems

Access control systems offer security to a business, home or premises by offering flexible and convenient control to a building or area to anyone who is authorised and restricting access to unauthorised people. An access control system can be used on a door, gate, lift, barrier, any entry point or on multiple entry points to control who enters and leaves a property. They protect people, an area, belongings and systems inside a property as well as the property itself and they also enable you to monitor who is entering and leaving at any time.

We would advise you to remove any access permission that is not required during these times as it can easily be restored when you are fully operational again.

Why is it important for Businesses to have Security Systems during Lockdown?

 Deter Vandalism

Vandalism can also be deterred by the presence of a CCTV system. Criminals don’t want to be caught, so are likely to move on to a new target if they think they will be caught on camera committing a crime. Make sure that your CCTV cameras are visual and cover the key, if not all, areas of your site for maximum protection against vandalism.

Provides Camera Footage for Evidence

Your business CCTV system can help to identify criminals and bring them to justice. Capturing your intruder or suspicious activity on camera is worth more than just sounding an alarm. Whether you invest in a HD or IP security camera system, the footage gained can be used in evidence when prosecuting criminals.

Security systems can help crimes to be solved more easily. The evidence provided from your CCTV footage includes:

  • The time the incident took place
  • The location inside or outside the premise where the incident occurred
  • Audio and visual evidence such as faces, clothing worn, etc.

The police or relevant authorities will be able to use the camera footage for evidence as well as help to identify wanted criminals.

Visibility of Entire Business Premises

With the Lockdown in place, you may be required to work from home which means you can’t keep an eye on your company.  This means you could use a CCTV system to make sure your business is kept safe and secure. Once your CCTV system is set up to cover your entire business premises, you will be able to have an overview of your entire site from one device, no matter where you are.

MultiTransmitter: The wired alarm second life and security control via smartphone

The MultiTransmitter integration module allows connecting outmoded wired alarm detectors to the Ajax system, which opens up more flexible settings for users, automation scenarios, smartphone control, and opportunities for extensive upgrades.

Security technologies are evolving every day. Alarm systems were installed to inform security companies about an intrusion, and now, they are the key parts of entire systems that combine automatic protection from different types of threats, video surveillance, and smart home capabilities.

This technological jump has divided the industry into two camps. On the one side, there are old alarm systems that perform their functions properly, although they do not offer modernization possibilities. On the other, there are smart home systems that offer many smart features but are not always ready to provide reliable security.

The Transmitter can serve not only as a signal communicator but also as a power source for detectors

The Transmitter was designed to expand the Ajax arsenal with devices that solve specific problems: household gas detectors, liquid level detectors, thermostats, IR barriers. But the market had its view on the novelty. Professionals appreciated the possibility of remote configuration and control and began using the Transmitter to renovate entire wired security systems.

Some people used the Transmitter to extend Ajax security to underground garages, storages, and safes, where radio waves could not penetrate.

The MultiTransmitter is an integration module with 18 wired zones. The module takes the place of the old security control panel and connects wired devices to a wireless control panel. This provides users with more available settings, automation scenarios, and control from their smartphones.

What’s inside

The MultiTransmitter has 18 wired zones for connecting devices and tampers that support 4 types of contacts: NO, NC (without a resistor), EOL (NC with a resistor), EOL (NO with a resistor). Besides 18 zones, the module has three 12V power outputs: 2 main and 1 separate for fire detectors.

The MultiTransmitter itself is powered by the 110/230V main, and, in case of a power loss, there is a place for a backup battery in the body that will supply the module and the connected devices. The central unit and the users are notified of any power problems through the Ajax app.

Also, in the app, it is possible to define a room, a group, a device type (detector/tamper), and an alarm type for each device. Due to this, users can see a clear notification text indicating what happened, when and where, instead of the zone number of the triggered detector. And the security company receives a clear alarm code and responds according to the protocol.

Listed below are examples of the five alarm types:

  • intrusion
  • fire
  • medical help
  • panic button
  • gas leakage

The module is equipped with two tamper buttons, which respond to opening the lid and detaching the body from a wall. It will not be possible to open the MultiTransmitter without your awareness. And the adjustment of the resistor resistance in the app allows the module to instantly notice faults, power failure, or signal cable interruption of the connected detector.

New user experience

The MultiTransmitter allows you to switch from a simple wired alarm system to Ajax in a step-by-step process. In the beginning, a hub and an integration module are enough. With them, users get security management in the app, event log, and extensive upgrade options. Wireless leakage, smoke and glass break detectors, street and home sirens, smart plugs, and relays; all these devices can be added to the system at the moment of renovation or later.

In the Ajax system, users can specify how to receive alarms and system events notification via push notifications, text messages, or calls. Motion detectors allow you to know in seconds whether an intrusion has actually occurred or someone has forgotten to disarm the security.

For engineers of security companies, the MultiTransmitter is a step towards remote service. In the Ajax PRO: Tool for Engineers mobile app or the Ajax PRO Desktop PC app, you can remotely set the delay when entering or leaving, adjust a schedule for switching on the night mode and activation of a siren when the detectors are triggered, and temporarily switch off the device in case of a malfunction. Thanks to separate power terminals, false alarms of fire detectors connected to the MultiTransmitter can be reset in the app. No more unnecessary site visits.

Paired with the hub, the MultiTransmitter takes the stability of the system communication with the monitoring station to a new level. Ajax hubs support up to 4 communication channels, which can include Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and mobile service (2G/3G/4G). If the hub can’t connect to any of the channels, the security company and users will know about this in a minute. The times when such a situation became known hours later are in the past.

Another essential function that the MultiTransmitter opens for outdated wired alarm systems is the automation scenarios. They allow the system to not only report a threat but also actively resist it. This will require smart plugs and relays, which will switch on the light, close the shutters and electric locks and de-energise the room by an alarm of one or more detectors.

Four steps to new capabilities

The MultiTransmitter installation and configuration process does not require extra time and effort. Like other Ajax devices, the module is connected to the hub in the app by scanning a QR code. When connecting wired devices, the MultiTransmitter indicates resistors resistances and offers them as recommended. And if the device was connected incorrectly, the system will inform you about this.

By connecting a wired alarm system to the hub via MultiTransmitter, you pass on the worries of further upgrades to Ajax. Hub software updates are done by air, adding new features and support for new devices. The coverage area of the security system can be easily expanded with ReX radio signal range extenders, and thanks to the data import function, you can update the hub to a new model and transfer the entire system configuration to it in less than 15 minutes.

Benefits of 4K CCTV

Getting 4K CCTV systems is often the best option you have for security systems. 4K is the highest level of image quality currently available to the public in security cameras. 4k is widely recognized by consumers to offer higher resolution, colour and contrast and the demand for higher quality video has grown within the surveillance market.

What is a 4K Security Camera?

4K surveillance cameras offer high resolution 3840*2160 with over 8 million pixels, the 8 million pixels is why a 4K camera is also considered or called an 8MP security camera. You will also see 4K cameras referenced as 2160p cameras, ultra HD CCTV cameras or 4K UHD security cameras.

The millions of pixels are measured horizontally and vertically and the 4K reference refers to those containing roughly 4K (3840) horizontal pixels.

There are typically two resolution standards when speaking about 4K: 3840*2160 and 4096*2160. Most 4K cameras used within the security industry, when people talk about 4K IP cameras, 8MP security cameras, ultra HD CCTV cameras, or 2160p cameras, they are talking about the ones with 3840*2160 resolution.

What are the advantages of 4K?

4K network IP security cameras tend to offer you more detail and clearer video images because of the higher pixel count.

Some of these examples may be clearer license plates from passing and parked cars, clearer facial recognition, the ability to observe small details on clothing and objects that may help identify people when an event occurs.

4k simply offers a more detailed image that allows for better visibility. Many 4K cameras also offer moto-zoom lenses to offer a closer field of view and built-in microphones to stream and record audio with your video recording.

4K security cameras, how do they work?

Consumers will always directly compare 4K CCTV to 4K televisions, tablets, and photo cameras. Marketing for these 4k products has made consumers more aware of 4K and they expect 4K to provide better performance and detail.

4k cameras use special image sensors. A typical image sensor inside a 4K CCTV security camera is larger in size than smaller resolution cameras and offer improved low-light sensitivity which allows for the 8MP high resolution. Coupled with advanced video codecs (10- or 12-bit), and Ultra H.265, 4K CCTV cameras can truly offer high-quality video images.

8MP 4K HD Security Cameras offer more details and clearer video

The main benefit of 8MP/4K security camera systems, without doubt, is the sharper and clearer images with more details. And that is mainly credited to the high performance image sensors of 4K IP security camera systems, which can capture clear and high-visibility images in moonlit environment or over-exposure areas. When compared to standard resolution cameras like 720P (1MP) cameras, 4K resolution cameras boasts over eight times the resolution and clarity and offer over four times that of 1080p (2MP) cameras, and twice as much as 1440p cameras. So you can have a better chance to obtain useful evidence from your 4K PoE or wireless security camera systems such as distinct human face features, license plate numbers, clothing colours etc.

Digital zoom allows for more detail when using 4K 8MP Security Cameras

Similar to mobile phones that offer pinch-to-zoom, 4K IP cameras allow you to you zoom in digitally to get closer to an object or person. This can be performed during live viewing as well as during playback.

8MP cameras provide as much as 2x the image size as a typical 1080p camera even after zooming 2X, this allows for better clarity while zooming in.

You also have the option of using motorized optical zoom lenses to zoom into objects, this offers the best quality as the lens adjusts the distance and field of view for a perfect image without the digital distortion that typically occurs when overusing digital zoom.

8MP IP security cameras offer a wider field of view

4K IP cameras have a wider field of view than 2MP 1080p cameras and offer larger a larger aspect ratio and more resolution.

A single 4K camera can typically cover more area which means fewer cameras. You may be able to cover larger space such as a reception area, lobby and cash registers with one 4K camera as opposed to using several 2MP 1080p cameras to cover the same space. This lowers the cost of the 4K cameras since you can manage the spaces with fewer cameras.

Future proof technology makes more sense

8MP 4K is becoming more common and replacing many older 1080p cameras. It’s always better to purchase technology that will provide the longest lifespan, and 4K will soon be the standard for most cameras installed.

With 4K becoming mainstream in devices we use daily such as TV’s, digital cameras, monitors and tablets it only makes sense to follow the trend when considering 4K security cameras for your home or business. Keep in mind that viewing 4K cameras in their native resolution means you need a 4K monitor and with most consumer devices being sold today at 4K it only makes sense to use 4k moving forward.

Why should my business have security systems maintained?

Importance of Security system maintenance

Faulty security systems can be an opportunity for burglars to break-in and steal expensive office equipment, stock and important files and records. Before it happens to you, a regular security system service should be conducted to ensure your valuables and people are well protected.

Regular maintenance of your security alarm system is essential to ensure that it is capable of detecting unwanted entry to your premises. Poorly maintained equipment can cause false alarms which are annoying and costly. More significant consequences can arise from lack of maintenance if your security system fails to detect unwanted intrusions.

Preventative Maintenance ensures the following:

  • Saves money over the life of your security systems
  • Minimises the risk that your Insurance Cover might be compromised
  • Minimises the risk that your Quality Accreditation might be compromised
  • Minimises the risk to your Business Continuity

CCTV engineers from Advanced Overwatch Northern Ireland

If your alarms were to fail during a break-in, you would regret not having a regular security system maintenance carried out at your premises.

If a break-in occurs you will likely need to make a claim via your insurance company. If it emerges that you had not maintained your security systems, insurers may be less willing to provide you with a pay-out for damages and losses.

As time progresses, so too will your premises. Perhaps you will move a cash register or change the access point, making the setup of your security systems no longer as efficient as they once were. They will need to be reviewed and altered accordingly.

How often should a maintenance take place?

Periodic alarm system maintenance is necessary to ensure the alarm runs and functions correctly. It is recommended that alarm systems should be maintained at least once or twice a year, in order to prevent any problems occurring. Alarms can be checked on-site, or even remotely if your business has a monitoring contract.

Maintenance of an alarm system may involve replacing parts. If the infrastructure is old, it may involve replacing wiring. Alarm maintenance plans are available which will cover you in the event of a parts failure.

Importance of Security systems

Intruder Alarms

A burglar alarm or intruder alarm system is designed to serve a very important purpose; which is to deter people from breaking into a property. Whether it is installed in a commercial or domestic property, the purpose of the alarm remains the same.

Intruder Alarm Systems should be regularly serviced to check all detection devices perform as required, warning devices operate correctly, communications devices signal and are received correctly by the Alarm Receiving Centre, and that batteries and power supplies are measured for operation and efficiency.

CCTV Cameras

Having a CCTV System installed at your premises will act as a serious deterrent to criminals and anyone carrying out illegal activities. The sight of a CCTV camera infers an air of danger and the presence of the law, deterring anyone planning to carry out a crime from doing so.

CCTV systems keep track of what is happening at the premises where they are installed. By monitoring the activity of workers and visitors at your business’ site, you and your workforce can have total peace of mind about exactly what is going on under your roof.

In the unfortunate event of a crime occurring at your premises, having a CCTV system really does pay dividends as it provides a way of collecting evidence to help find out exactly what had happened. Crimes can be solved far more easily with additional evidence from a CCTV camera, helping place times, locations and, most importantly, suspects.

When it comes to settling disputes, footage from security cameras can be incredibly important. This applies to both domestic and commercial scenarios.

It also helps keep records of when your staff are coming into and checking out of your site, as well as when deliveries are made or visitors enter the building, so you can ensure everything’s running smoothly.

It gives you peace of mind that your system will react

Knowing that a professionally accredited alarm company carries out a regular security system service at your premises will give you peace of mind that whenever it is required to react, it’ll activate and alert the necessary authorities.

The Benefits of Installing a Burglar Alarm System

There are many benefits of Installing a Burglar Alarm System. It’s a concerning reality that your home or business is at risk of being burgled or broken into. Even if you live in an area that would be classified as safe, you probably have some minor concerns when you leave your property, especially for long periods of time. A burglar alarm system can give you some peace of mind as it will provide protection for your possessions and property. Below we have listed several reasons our customers choose to install a burglar alarm system and why it is beneficial for your home and your business.

Installing a burglar alarm provides enhanced protection for your possessions

An average home in Northern Ireland has a lot of valuable assets not to mention personal photos and gifts which could be stolen. There are many valuable possessions that we keep at home and at work such as phones, tablets, laptops, TV’s, games consoles, jewellery and designer clothes which could be sold for a lot of cash. Not to mention, if you have lovely car sitting outside your front door and there is no one home, a thief may break in, find your keys and drive off in it.

If you have a business then you will most likely hold valuable stock, specialised equipment and employee possessions. To add to all these valuable things, your premises may contain sensitive customer information or even company records and plans. A break-in, even if no private or sensitive information happens to be stolen, will most likely cause concerns among your clients and employees. This could result in you losing customers or even possibly workers.

Installing an intruder alarm will decrease your insurance premiums

Thieves are looking for the easiest and laziest way that they can get some cash. The more security you have in your home the less likely that anyone will break in because a thief won’t target a secure location. Even the sight of a burglar alarm or CCTV camera will be enough to make intruders move along. Recently we wrote about why burglars in Northern Ireland are deterred by our burglar alarm systems.

Burglars often seek out ‘easy targets’ and by adding a burglar alarm to your home or business security plan this step can help ensure that your property is less likely to be targeted by thieves.

The Benefits of Installing a Burglar Alarm System in your home or business is that it will lower the cost of your insurance premiums. The amount of money you save will depend on your insurance provider, but it is possible to save a substantial amount of money on your insurance.

Installing a burglar alarm will give your home a higher value on the market

If you consider selling your house, you obviously want as much money as you can possibly get for it. An easy and beneficial way to boost the value of your property is to have a burglar alarm system. As well as keeping your home a place where you can feel safe, an intruder alarm also contributes to a safer neighbourhood. This is a desirable quality for a house and will be evident in your asking price.

Installing an intruder alarm will make leaving your home for longer periods of time much easier

Everybody needs a holiday, a period of rest. Sometime just to sit back, kick your feet up and relax. It can be hard to relax while away from your home or business when you have concerns about how secure your valuables are. You can’t really fully relax if this is the case. On the other hand, if your home or workplace has an installed burglar alarm or CCTV system, you can sit back, enjoy your holiday and rest assured that your home is well protected and that everything will be as it was left when you return home.

Installing a burglar alarm (along with CCTV) gives you the capability of remotely monitoring your home

Our burglar alarm security systems can also be equipped with CCTV cameras so that you can check in when you are not present. You can view your property live, in HD 24/7 from your smart phone, tablet or PC. You can also check the status of your burglar alarm system and you will receive instant live alerts from both your burglar alarm system and CCTV system.

This technology would be particularly useful if you have teenagers and you might be concerned as to what mischievous things they will get up to, or you have pets and you are away for the day and you are concerned as to how they are getting on or behaving. Our advanced security systems even include remote arming, this is so you don’t need to worry whether you left the downstairs window or back door open and you can ensure everything is locked up nice and safe. You can also arm and disarm your alarm if you have someone checking in on your property on your behalf without the need to give anyone your alarm access code.
