Why Have a Monitored Burglar Alarm in Northern Ireland?

A burglar alarm is the foundation of business and home security across Northern Ireland. It acts as a deterrent, discouraging potential burglars from targeting the property.

A burglar alarm also provides an early warning system, alerting the monitoring centre. This allows immediate action, such as contacting the emergency services. A burglar alarm can also lower insurance premiums, because it reduces the risk of theft and damage. Overall, investing in a burglar alarm is a proactive measure that helps protect your premises, contents, and people.

Why is alarm monitoring important?

There are a few good reasons to have your alarm monitored. With monitoring, our trained professionals are alerted immediately when an alarm is triggered, allowing for a swift response to any potential threats. This can greatly reduce the risk of theft, vandalism, or other criminal activities. A monitored alarm from Advanced Overwatch means someone is watching for a signal from your property, even when you are not there.

Burglar Alarm response

In an emergency the monitoring centre contacts the right authorities quickly, which speeds up the response and can save lives. Some insurers discount the premium for a monitored alarm, because the risk is lower, and at business premises monitoring is often a condition of the policy. What do the statistics say?

PSNI recorded crime statistics for the twelve months to 30 June 2026, published on 30 July 2026, put recorded crime across Northern Ireland at 93,560 offences. That is down 1.3% on the previous year, 1,191 fewer offences, and one of the lowest annual totals since the current data series began in April 1998. Burglary was among the categories that fell over the same period, alongside vehicle offences and bicycle theft.

The headline number hides local differences. Crime fell in eight of Northern Ireland’s eleven policing districts but rose in three, including Causeway Coast and Glens, the district where we are based, up 3.1% year on year. We broke down the full district-by-district figures in our NI crime trends June 2026 post.

Falling recorded crime is a regional average, not a promise about your street or your premises. Burglary has not gone away, and insurers still expect business premises to carry a monitored, professionally installed alarm. A monitored burglar alarm system remains a sound investment in the security of your premises, contents and people.
